I think poedit is better than gedit for translation purposes. Poedit
can memorize the translations that are already in the system. You can
also add translated po files to poedit, so that you need not re-type
the strings that are already translated. It is also possible to set
the header of the po files. To install poedit in fedora run "yum
install poedit" or "apt-get install poedit" in debian/ubuntu.
