Dear Anup Kumar Das,



The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Hyderabad has
developed e-sikshak e-learning software. We can offer e-learning
courses in regional languages (Telugu and Hindi) through e-sikshak. In
2007, the CDAC conducted a state level workshop for NGOs, sensitizing
them on the usage and distributed the software to NGOs.



The India Development gateway project (implemented by CDAC-Hyderabad)
also uses e-sikshak and offers an e-learn course on sustainable
Agriculture in Telugu language (http://elearn.cdac.in/eSikshak ).



Regarding Content Management, most of the people are using open source
PLONE http://plone.org/ and DRUPAL http://drupal.org/. Many NGOs and
academic institutions are using NewGenLib library open source software
http://www.newgenlib.com/. The NewGenLib an Integrated Library
Management System and its office is located in Hyderabad India.

Dear members,



I am currently working on a documentation project for the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on
"Free and Open Source Software" (FOSS). The project aims to document
FOSS development work in India and other South Asian countries. This
project also aims at mapping of institutional FOSS activities in India
and other South Asian Countries.



In this context, we are looking for information on software developed
for applications listed below from members of the community about free
and open source software originated in South Asia, specifically India:



1. Our particular interest is in software developed in the areas of:

·         Content Management

·         Digital Archiving

·         e-Learning

·         Information Management

·         Knowledge Management, and

·         Library Automation



2. Names of key persons and institutions involved in the development
of the above applications.



Feedback from members will be instrumental in adding value to the
documentation process, and the sourced software will then be evaluated
and presented in a forthcoming UNESCO publication on FOSS in South
Asia.
