pango is good to go.

Our latest version is 0.5.4. You can install it from
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/all/ttf-malayalam-fonts/download

I'm curious as to why Ubuntu did not take the latest version.

This is the 'guy' creating problems. Either you need to remove this
package or get a fixed version.
Hiran, does upstream have your fixes? Give the download location.
