in the FOSS scene in India , one is forced to think of politics involved in
it under current cicumstances. There were people [ Developers and FSF
supporters who had no idea of any kind of political involvement except that
the Party supports FOSS ] who were surprised at the "FSF - TN" announcement
made at a recent Chennai event. That too at an event in which the Party had
a big hand.

There were umpteen events this year that involved FOSS. There were (are) bi=
g
issues concerning the future of Malayalam representation in Unicode. These
were things where a boost and support from any organization would have been
appreciated more had it come forth. Party could have helped there IMHO.

I don't see the point in continuing heated discussions instead of doing
something proactive and working together . As a FOSS supporter , i
appreciate the fact that Party advocates it. It would be great if the Party
can hold discussions between the people who actually do stuff ( developers,
supporters, members of local user groups etc ) and then take actions to
support valid ideas that are outcomes of these discussions . Such a
relationship will be fruitful and will automatically bring credit to the
Party internationally.

About the issue at hand, AFAIK the Novell sponsorship had not been disclose=
d
prior. This may be a result of possible human error from the organizers'
part. They might not have been aware of the issues with Novell's antics ,
that is going on even now. If the sponsorship had been disclosed before , a
person like Anivar would have reacted then itself. Assuming that Anivar
waited nutil the event began in order to make a ruckus would be clearly an
idiotic conclusion.

Let me remind everyone that if we set out and do something, we will not nee=
d
anyone's support . Discussions are good. But at the end of the day , I see
only a few people actually going out and doing something about the movement
they care. That is okay because we cannot expect everyone to set out and
take part in events. But when people who love FOSS and have contributed
more than their share to further its cause , are insulted (wrongfully), we
should support them rather than blame them.

We must support those who support us yes. But first , let us support those
who are within us, among us and are actually doing something about
furthering the cause instead of simply yapping when an issue comes up.
Anivar, Shyam and others who protested there have contributed a lot to FOSS
scene in Kerala. We must realize that and think about why they did what the=
y
did. First , let us understand the issues and then make statements. Let us
promote those individuals among us who contribute to FOSS. Instead of going
after newspaper reports, please come together and communicate. We have a
better medium called the internet. Has anyone cared enough to actually mail
the parties involved ( instead of coming to conclusions ) ? Has anyone aske=
d
the newspapers about their sources ( instead of coming to conclusions ) ?

I request everyone to concentrate their energies on making the upcoming
conference (http://fsfs.in) a big success. Let us first DO something to
promote FOSS.
