First check whether the downloaded file is corrupted or not.

Do md5sum filename

and match it with the content of MD5STM file available at the same
place where you downloaded the iso.

If its OK, try writing it to pen drive

sudo dd if=path/to/file.iso of=/dev/sdX

where sdX is your USB flash disk.

Now try booting, and installing again

By the way, if you can load any shell in your current installation,
you can try the command pppconfig

do

sudo pppconfig

And configure your phone
or
you can also try man pon (if pppconfig is not present), and edit the
file that is said in the manpage manually.
