If you are a student and your campus does not have a Free Software
community, this is the right time to start one. Talk to me if you need
any guidance.

Also if you have a community, but it is not active, take some clues
from these activities and make it active.

Hi friends,

We have seen a very healthy spike in the free software activities across
the state by various GLUGs under FSMK. Last Saturday (24th August), we had
8 events happening in parallel in various GLUGs.

1) SJBIT GLUG had a one day workshop on python in which close to 80
students attended. This was part of our celebrating August as Python Month.

2) BNMIT GLUG had an installation fest. 20 students had brought their
laptops and all of them except one were able to successfully install Ubuntu
on their laptops.
3) GEC Hassan, had an official inauguration of their GLUG, named GECH Linux
Users and Enthusiasts . This was followed by installation in laptops of 12
students and then a talk on Localization. Close to 60 students attended the
session. Photos here[2].
4) BMSIT GLUG had their regular hacktime meet with introduction to Free
Hardware talk and Introduction to Open Culture and Movement talk.
5) VCET Puttur had their GLUG meet where Basics of Python was introduced
and then they had a discussion on various GNU/Linux distributions. Close to
80 students attended the GLUG meeting.
6) Free Software Introduction session was taken in Shantiniketan College,
Ramanagara
7) PES Mandya GLUG worked with their CS and IS department to migrate all
machines to Ubuntu. All the labs for the students under the VTU syllabus
for CS and IS department will now be done on GNU/Linux as the platform.
8) TOGGLE, GLUG of The Oxford College of Engineering had a Introduction to
Python basics for MCA students.

Apart from this, we had a Diaspora Meetup at FSMK office on Saturday
evening. Also on Sunday, we had a Debian Packaging Session by Praveen as
part of our Sunday School program.
Overall a very happening week for FSMK and its GLUGs.

Thank you all for being part of it.

You have to keep reminding your government that you don't get your rights
from them; you give them permission to rule, only so long as they follow the
rules: laws and constitution.
