സ്വതന്ത്ര മലയാളം കം‌പ്യൂട്ടിങ് പരിപാലിക്കുന്ന യുണികോഡ്
അക്ഷരസഞ്ചയങ്ങളുടെ നവീകരിച്ച പതിപ്പ് വിപുലമായ പൊതു ഉപയോഗത്തിന് ഇപ്പോള്‍
ലഭ്യമാണ്. ധാരാളം പുതുക്കലുകളും പരിഷ്കരണങ്ങളും ഈ പതിപ്പുകളില്‍
ചേര്‍‌ത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. അവയില്‍ പ്രധാനമായവ ചുരുക്കത്തില്‍:

* ഓപ്പണ്‍‌ടൈപ്പ് സ്പെസിഫിക്കേഷന്‍ 2-നു്‌ അനുയോജ്യം
* ഹാര്‍‌ഫ്‌ബസ്, യുണിസ്ക്രൈബ്, അഡോബി ഷേപിങ് എന്‍‌ജിനുകള്‍ക്കുള്ള പിന്തുണ
* ഏകീകരിച്ച ഓപ്പണ്‍‌ടൈപ്പ് ലുക്കപ്പ് ടേബിളുകളും ഗ്ലിഫുകളുടെ
പുനര്‍‌നാമകരണവും - പുനരുപയോഗയുക്തം
* ധാരാളം പിഴവുകള്‍ പരിഹരിച്ചതു്‌

പുതിയ ഷേപിങ് എന്‍‌ജിന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് (പുതിയ ലിനക്സ്
സിസ്റ്റങ്ങള്‍, സീടെക്‌ 0.9999, വിന്‍ഡോസ് 7/8, പുതിയ അഡോബി
എന്‍‌ജിന്‍...) ഫോണ്ടുകളുടെ 6.0 പതിപ്പ് ശുപാര്‍‌ശ ചെയ്യുന്നു. ICU
ലേയൗട്ട് എന്‍‌ജിനുപയോഗിക്കുന്നര്‍ ഫോണ്ടുകളുടെ 5.1 പതിപ്പുപയോഗിക്കുക.


We are happy to announce the new releases of Malayalam unicode fonts
maintained by SMC.
2 versions are available:
5.1:     This version of fonts has seen a wide array of enhancements,
updates and bugfixes for all the fonts. This version supports only the
v1 mlym opentype specifications and will  go into maintenance mode
from now on. This is the recommended version for all those who are
stuck at old rendering enginessuch as old pango, Qt, especially ICU
(old versions of {Open,Libre}Office,XeTeX), Windows XP etc.

6.0:     This version is updated to have support for both v1 (mlym)
and v2 (mlm2) opentype specification - at the moment only for Rachana
and Meera fonts. This version works on old-pango, Qt, Windows XP,
Harbuzz, Uniscribe (Windows 7, Windows 8) and Adobe. ICU layout engine
is *not* supported and users depending on that (old Open/LibreOffice,
old XeTeX et al) are out of luck. All new enhancements and development
effort will go into this version, I'll merge the 'mlm2' branch into
'master' once we do the final release. This is the recommended version
for all new users.

Noteworthy changes
===============
* Combined mlym, mlm2 Opentype script specification support in Meera
and Rachana (6.0 only)
* Full support to Harfbuzz and Uniscribe shaping engines
* Cleaned up and updated lookup tables
* Meaningful names to glyphs to help with Lookup tables reusability
* Old Figures and other Typographical glyphs to Rachana
* Dotreph positioning using GPOS 'abvm' lookup
* Unicode 6.1 Malayalam glyphset for many fonts
* Improved Latin glyphs and kerning for Meera
* Removed hinting instructions, reduced TTF file size
* Several bugfixes, lookup corrections, glyph improvements
* Many test cases added
