Subject: [Pirates Discuss] [Discussion] Concept behind Pirate Cycling
To: General discussions <discuss at lists.pirateparty.org.in>
*Live better and help others to live better.*
*Project:*
Pirate cycling is a project to spread the message of Freedom and free
culture in society by taking free software and other related projects as a
proof of concept.
*Objective:*
The objective of the pirate movement is to make the people think freely and
act to help the society to live and grow with minimum dependency. We are
trying to demonstrate a sustainable growth model from the free culture. We
are also targeting to connect various communities in Kerala who already act
in the same direction. We are providing pirate movement as a platform for
people who are conscious about freedom and free culture.
*Concept:*
Traditional economics is concerned about the needs of human societies
which do not match with the resources available. As the needs are plenty
and the resources are scarce, the economists discusses the mode of
distribution. In this scenario the concept of haves and have-nots was
postulated which is the basic to the current unequal distribution of wealth
in societies. Practically the economists spread the idea that the have-nots
have to depend on haves to meet their requirements. The basic needs
addressed were of food, cloth and shelter and the dependency was induced
around these needs. Modern society added a few more things such as Air and
Water, the availability of which are getting drastically decreasing because
of pollution. In the most modern society the resources of Information and
Energy decide the economic well being of the society.
Resources of information include the creation, distribution, use,
integration and manipulation of information is a significant economic,
political, and cultural activity. The aim of the society is to gain
competitive advantage internationally, through using information technology
(IT) in a creative and productive way. The knowledge economy is its
economic counterpart, whereby wealth is created through the economic
exploitation of understanding. The societies who have the means to partake
in this form of activities belong to the group of haves and the remainders
are the have nots.
Management of energy resources has become very crucial as the cost of
energy has become a significant factor in the performance of economy of
societies. Energy management involves utilizing the available energy
resources more effectively that is with minimum incremental costs. Since
now energy plays an essential role in societies, the ownership and control
of energy resources plays an increasing role in politics. At the national
level, governments seek to influence the sharing of energy resources among
various sections of the society through pricing mechanisms; or even who
owns resources within their borders.
For a particular society or community, if some force holds the absolute
control on any of the above, it will have absolute control over that
particular community or group of people. In other words the controlled
societies have to depend on the controlling forces to meet their needs. The
best way to free the people from this scenario is make the society self
sufficient by removing these dependencies by meeting the requirements from
locally available resources.
*How it is possible?*
*Knowledge Freedom*
Here the wealth is created through the economic exploitation of
understanding. Unlike other resources, information and knowledge can be
shared and they actually grow through application. Science is a form of
knowledge. Technology is one of end products of science. It is a common
usable form of science. When science is adapted to meet the common man's
requirement it becomes a technology. If it is free to flow, two things can
happen. One can avoid the reinvention of wheel; it can lead to modification
resulting in newer or better technology. Knowledge can grow faster when it
is shared.
Free Software: Software is a form of knowledge. Free Software is the most
leading proof of concept of community effort and sharing of knowledge. In
this system we have proved free flowing knowledge is far better than
restricted one. It also reduced the absolute dependacy of the end user to a
particular service provider.
*Intendant energy source:*
A decentralised independent but connected energy source is the answer to
this problem. All most all available energy on the earth is derived from
sun. We have verity of renewable source to extract it, like Solar, wind,
Bio-Mas. But now we are depending mainly on centralised systems like
fossil, nuclear and huge hydal systems. Since these systems are very huge
and complex an ordinary society can never get a control over it, instead
they can become a slave of that system.
Since photo voltaic and solar thermal systems are becoming more common, we
believe it will be a promising technology of the future. At the same time
wind and bio-mas are much more easy to extract. The technology is very
simple and even a school student can do it. Also this is the best possible
protest against Nuclear, thermal, and other huge evil power plants.
*Our model: *
*Cycle*: Bicycle is one of the best solutions for public transport with
minimum environmental hazard and maximum mobility as a cost effective
solution. Most of the people prefer Motor bike over bike(Bicycle) as a
trend rather than as a solution. So our attempt is to set a trend on bikes
and e-bikes as a eco-friendly alternative.
*Campaign:* During the journey we are getting support from various local
organizations and free software groups to spread the message. They will
organize various training programs on free software and free culture.
