Things have changed a lot this year on video calls with WebRTC appearing
in the stable releases of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox - there are
now several solutions that people can run themselves using genuinely free
software on their own infrastructure:

- JSCommunicator - for normal calls between two people. (eg. https://rtc
.debian.org and https://freephonebox.net - it is fairly easy to just take
a snapshot from there and copy it to your own server)

- JitMeet from the Jitsi team - for group video conferences.
