In ibus, "Indian" is the layout, and "Malayalam" is the variant.

Try doing this,
```
setxkbmap -layout us,in
setxkbmap -variant ,mal_enhanced
setxkbmap -options grp:shift_caps_toggle
```

Then you can shift+caps to toggle the layout
