Hi,
I'm a student at The University of Reading, UK, on the Masters degree
in Typeface Design - http://www.typedesign.rdg.ac.uk/ - and am working
on free software fonts.
A significant part of the course is developing our typeface into a
family with a complex script complement, and full OpenType features.
I am considering designing an original Malayalam typeface designed for
reading long passages of text on screen, that will be wholly created
with and released as free software.
I was given your contact details by Praveen A, from the SMC GNU/Linux
user group, as someone involved with the IT at School initiative that is
using GNU/Linux in schools in Kerala. I thought I'd email you to see if
you would be interested in contributing to my project a little, with feed-
back and general information about the usage scenarios of GNU/Linux
with regards to fonts and printing in Kerala :-)
Specifically, I would be very grateful if you could tell me (or email digital
photos) about the kinds of documents made and printed at schools
using GNU/Linux, and how much text created by free software is
read on-screen or printed out :-) I'd also be interested in the use of
photocopies in schools as well.

Dave
