[smc-discuss] 100% Free Software compatible laptops

I have been testing all the laptops I could get my hands on for 100%
Free Software compatibility for the last many days.

And now I'm happy to recommend two models for people who are planning to
buy a new laptop.

Acer Aspire E1-530 and Lenovo IdeaPad U310.

Bluetooth on both models doesn't work with Trsiquel 7.0, but I think
Wifi is more important. If we have Atheros based chipsets, it works with
Free Software without any non free firmware or drivers.

I hope all of you would join this significant effort by testing as many
laptops as possible.

All you have to do is to run Trisquel 7.0 using a live USB and check if
wireless, bluetooth, graphics and webcam works. Update h-node.org with
hardware details of your laptop.

We would like to do a mass campaign by recommending these models to
people interested in buying new laptops. When vendors realize there is a
demand for laptops with 100% Free Software compatibility they will be
forced to provide more models with these requirements.

If you are in an organization and your organization is planning to buy
new laptops, suggest including A-Platinum rating on h-node.org as a
requirement. But we need to find more models that works perfectly with
100% Free GNU/Linux distros like trisquel and debian with only main enabled.

h-node.org is a collaboration between Free Software Foundation and
Debian Project.
