How did you write the dvd image to usb pendrive? If you used
unetbooting or something similar it fails the easiest way to do is

cat debian-dvd.iso > /dev/sdX as root

where /dev/sdX is device file for your pendrive. Don't forget to
unmount pendrive before doing that and don't dive something like
/dev/sdX1 you should see what is your device using fdisk -l and should
only give /dev/sdX removing all integers from the end of the string.
